We did the half day tour. It has been my favourite day of our holiday by far. The guide was friendly and helpful and... the rest of the small group were great company. The elephants were spectacular. There were two adults and a baby and it was slightly intimidating at the start to be so close to them without a fence or a wall separating us. The nerves soon went and in seconds I was popping bananas and pieces of sugar cane right into their mouths. Their trunks went straight for our food baskets and we quickly ran out. Next we were given the opportunity to give them a mud bath, followed by a rinse-down in a nearby river. Worth every penny and highly recommended.read more

Sur une journée complète, nous avons passé en tout et pour tout 1h avec les éléphants.
Nous sommes... arrivés vers 10h au sanctuaire. Nous nous sommes changés pour mettre leur tenue qui va bien, puis nous avons préparé la nourriture pour les éléphants.
Nous nous rendons ensuite auprès des éléphants, pardon 1 seul et unique éléphant présent (heureusement que nous n'étions que deux), pour le nourrir. Moment agréable mais très fugace car dès que la nourriture s'épuise l'éléphant s'en va (normal il fonctionne à la nourriture). Nous l'observons de loin...
Il est 11h30, on nous sert le repas (fried rice simple), puis on nous met dans un coin pour un temps calme jusqu'à 13h00.
3 autres personnes arrivent pour le programme d'une demi-journée et commence à preparer la nourriture pendant que nous nous rendons auprès, toujours, du seul et unique éléphant pour le bain de boue et la toilette dans la rivière.
Nous sommes dans la boue, nous lui faisons des petits massages. Très vite l'éléphant en a marre d'être assis et se lève. Pas de problème, il ne faut pas le forcer, c'est tout à fait normal.
Nous nous dirigeons vers la rivière à 50 mètres pour le rincer sauf que pendant ce temps, à 20 mètres l'autre groupe commence à donner à manger au 2ème éléphant revenu de sa balade. Donc obligatoirement, "notre" éléphant sent la nourriture et s'en va.
Fin du temps avec les éléphants il est 13h30.
Puis nous partons pour voir une cascade et on nous ramène à l'hôtel à 15h30, alors que la journée devait se finir à 17h30.
En plus, la personne de Chiang Mai Elephant Home voulait à tout prix nous prendre en photo avec son portable et pas les nôtres en nous disant qu'elle nous les enverrai, 1 mois et 3 relances après nous attendons toujours.
Je vous recommande Maerim Elephant Home. Nous sommes arrivés pour uniquement nourrir les éléphants mais c'était beaucoup plus sympa et beaucoup plus de proximité avec LES éléphants (dont un petit) sans pour autant qu'il y ait de maltraitance.read more

If you have a love for elephants, this is the place to be! the love that the workers have for these beautiful animals,... is enormous. They do so much for them and the guests visiting the elephants. We had the pleasure of feeding them, bathing them, rubbing them in mud, and making up their vitamins. all whilst learning about their history and life. we have taken so much from this experience and it is a memory that I will continue to share. Los elefantes están cuidados y protegidos. Se ve que están educados y no sabemos qué se esconde detrás de eso pero... prefiero verlos en el campo correteando y jugando en el río que en las calles de Chiang Mai montados por turistas como si fueran máquinas de carga. We went to the camp in Chiang Mai area. First we changed our clothes, got some explanation about the day and the... elephants,and went to make their medicine.
When we went to feed them they seemed super hungry and snapped the food. The workers pulled the elephants' ears to make them move from place to place and the next group already came to feed the elephants when we came back from bathing them. Overall the elephants seemed fine but it felt like the place cares more about making money from groups then taking care of the elephants.read more

My wife and I lucked out during a visit to Chaing Mai. While stopping to take photos of a local Wat (temple), we met a... friendly Thai man visiting with his family from Bangkok. He told us he had been to the Chiang Mai Elephant Home the previous day and higy recommended it. He showed us where in Chiang Mai to book it (as some of the tourist traps book you in one location and then send you somewhere different). We were looking for a Sanctuary that did not encourage riding of elephants. Booking was easy and straightforward. My wife and I chose the full day plus hike option. We were picked up from our hotel at 8am by Ronnie, and driven out to the countryside in the back of a pickup truck (standard method of transportation for Chiang Mai). Along the way we stopped at a country market for a washroom break, snacks, and refreshments (get a Thai style iced coffee...very decadent!). The entire trip took about 75 minutes to our first stop, which was a bamboo rafting trip down a gentle river. Ronnie passed us off to a local river guide, and we took a leisurely 45 trip down the river. The river was calm with only a few small rapids...nothing to worry over but you will get a bit wet so a bathing suit is ideal for the ride. Plenty to see on the river as well...elephants, cows, oxen, snakes (tiny and harmless). After the river excursion, we met up again with Ronnie, who gave us the option of hiking to a waterfall OR a white sand beach. He recommended the waterfall, which was a shorter and easier hike, so we followed along. The hike was pleasant, not challenging for someone who frequently walks, and Ronnie regaled us with stories of elephants, his home life, and Thai traditions. After an hour or so, we arrived at the waterfall (very picturesque and romantic for this honeymooning couple), and we had 45 minutes to swim and explore. After that, it was another 30 minute walk through beautiful hilly countryside to the elephant home. Immediately on arriving we were seated to a nice Thai lunch...rice, curry potatoes and chicken, eggs and fruit. Once lunch was done, we changed into the provided elephant clothes (colorful and a bit ridiculous...but cute nonetheless), and were sent over to the food prep area. Ronnie explained to us what the elephants ate while we prepared food balls wrapped in banana leaves. My wife and I lucked out in out choice of program, because it ended up being only the two of us. Because of this, Ronnie was able to get us some extra alone time with 5 very hungry elephants (3 adults and 2 wee ones) who were more than happy to be fed, talked to, and petted. There were other groups of 10 people, but because they had chosen half day programs, we were able to get in with the elephants earlier. Ronnie was able to tell us about each elephant, their histories, and how they differed in personalities. Once the feeding was done, we switched back into our swim suits for some elephant bathing. A gentle big guy let us slather him in mud, and then took us down to the river where we were able to wash him off with big buckets of water. All the while Ronnie and the other handlers were there to make sure everything went smoothly. We opted for a photo / video option for an additional 550 Baht and were given a USB stick with everything on it before we left...a nice way to relive the memories whenever we want. At the end of the day Ronnie drove us back to our hotel and provided us with some recommendations of what we should see during our remaining time in Chiang Mai. Overall, it was a great day and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a cruelty-free experience with elephants. Ronnie was an excellent guide as well, so ask for him if you get the chance.read more

Une excellente excursion dans un endroit où l’on prend soin des éléphants.
Si le prix peux vous freiner un peu comme... nous l’avons été, sachez simplement que les soigneurs nous ont donné les coûts pour nourrir un seul éléphant par jour, et que presque les 2/3 de ce que vous versez partent directement dedans.
Très beau moment passé avec des une guide sympa qui donne plein de conseils pratiques sur les environs aussi

My first time to Chiang Mai was definitely a memorable one, especially with the opportunity to go to the Chiang Mai... Elephant Home. The guide, Goi, was wonderful and definitely an expert—you ask any question about the elephants or the sanctuary, she has an answer right away despite being only an apprentice.
Another thing I loved about this tour is that the place lives up to its name, that it really is an ‘Elephant Home’. It’s an ethical elephant sanctuary, and thus there is no elephant riding involved; they are really taken care of physically, emotionally and mentally. Moreover, the experience of feeding the elephants first-hand was a happy one, for both elephants and tourists alike! And of course, getting to try the mud spa and bathing the elephants in the river was just as interesting and fun.
Overall, this Chiang Mai experience is definitely worth all the time and money, and a moment worth sharing. I’d love to go back again soon with friends and family.

We truly had a great experience at Chiang Mai Elephant Home, one of those magical day that will stay stuck in your... memory forever! Not only the place where the sanctuary is located is amazing and beautiful, but our guide Yun and the masters of the elephants were the nicest. The elephants have all the space to play, walk, eat and be well treated, there are of course no chains, very few fences and no riding... you can see the elephants are truly happy and cared! My husband and I had a blast here when we did the 2 day 1 night package. It was imperative to me to find an elephant... company that did not support elephant riding so I'm very glad to have found Chiang Mai Elephant Home.
Our guide was the awesome Ronie and he took very good care of us. We went hiking on the first day which turned out to be a 5 hour excursion to see three different waterfalls. If the hike is too much for you, they can accommodate the distance for you and you don't have to see all the waterfalls.
The cabin feels like glamping and they are very cute and have all the basic necessities you need including electricity, toilet, a hot shower, some shampoo and soap, very firm mattresses, pillows, blankets and mosquito netting. I'd recommend bringing some earplugs as the roosters will crow, dogs will bark, and elephants will roar throughout the night.
The elephants are treated very nicely here. We made a medicine ball to help with their digestion, fed them bananas and leaves, helped give them a mud bath and then a rinse in the water. The pregnant mama elephant and her adopted son Hing Hing didn't want to get in the cold river water and were not forced to do so, and I thought that was very nice.
We were also treated to a bamboo rafting trip down the river which was cool amd relaxing in the afternoon heat.

Our guide was Goi. She was so friendly and informative! Wonderful place. I was so happy to see the elephants roam... freely—the way they should. There are no elephant rides or painting involved, which was great. If you research the story behind elephant riding and painting, you’ll see why we didn’t want those activities.
We fed the elephants, bathed them, and saw a beautiful waterfall. The elephants seemed to have a blast too. One baby elephant even came out to play with us! Highly recommended!read more

I did the 2hr trek, bamboo rafting and a visit with the elephants. The whole day was brilliant and really well... organised, with a pick up from my Air BnB in the morning. We were a small group of 6 for the day. The guides were really fun, nice and knowledgable and I learnt a lot. You can tell they really care about the elephants and that the animals are well looked after. I went on my own but was friends with everyone by the end of the day. Wir hatten im Rahmen einer Ganztagestour (Elephants plus Waterfall) die Herde besucht und waren ganz begeistert.... Erstaunliche Tiere, die gut gepflegt und genährt wirkten.
Die Mahouts (Elefantenführer) schienen einen liebevollen Umgang mit den Riesen zu pflegen. Zusammen mit 7 weiteren Personen haben wir Vitaminbomben für die Elephants zubereitet, sie verfüttert und mit den Tieren gebadet. Mittagessen und der Trip zum Wasserfall war inkkusive.

From start to finish the entire experience was excellent. We did the half day and we’re picked up by a lovely man;... Tony. We chatted as he drove us to the home whilst stopping at the local market (grab the cheap bananas or coconut rice wrapped in leaves for a delicious breakfast!)
Then we met our guide Reece. He spoke perfect English, and from the beginning to the end of the day he was patient and gave us just the right amount of information without being a lecture! We proceeded to feed, mud bath and then wash the elephants. The mahouts were hilarious, very friendly and extremely encouraging to be hands on.
You finish the day with a delicious Thai meal and then a trip to the waterfall before being dropped right back to your front door!
There is no need to even comment on the quality of life or treatment these beautiful animals receive as it is clear to anyone these animals are loved, cared and given as much space, time and food as they want!
Recommend this above everything to do in Chiang Mai!read more

We were picked up on time by Ronnie he was warm and welcoming. Visit with elephants was amazing real hands on feeding,... giving mud bath and washing off in the river. Ronnie took pictures throughout. Had a lovely lunch before going to waterfall. Spectacular however my friend flipped on slippery rocks had nasty bump to her head. Such a wonderful tour and a beautiful place. The elephants looked so happy and peaceful after being rescued from... working farms/travelling circuses. The elephants were free to roam and you could always see the elephant trainers having to chase the young elephants to try and keep them with the others. Absolutely No riding, no chains, no fences.
You get a lot of one on one time with the elephants, firstly learning to make them nutritional food, then building trust by feeding them. After getting to wash them in the mud and river. To top it of the waterful is a great addition to end the full day tour.
Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a special day out.
The staff were so friendly and a special thank you to our tour guide for the day. He wasn’t just informative about the elephants but also the land around. He was a fun tour guide, and made the whole tour very personal.read more

Did a half day experience here and it was amazing. You get to make food for the elephants and feed them. All the... elephants are friendly and have free roam, they also seem to share a good bond with their keepers. Unfortunately for me I had food poisoning when visiting and the staff especially Deedy were more then helpful offering me a place to lie down and water to help me recover.
